Battlestar season extended, movie likely

According to The Chicago Tribune, the current and final season of BSG may be extended by two hours and shot as a TV movie. A Sci Fi spokesman told The Chicago Tribune, “As written by Ron, the phenomenal finale script extends beyond the time alotted for the episode.  We’re exploring how to shoot the extra footage as Ron has envisioned and written it.”

It gets even better. In an interview with Ain’t It Cool News, Mary McDonnell said that the final script filled her with “…an incredible feeling of adrenaline … It made me understand the entire saga, and made me excited for all of you.”

That’s great, but my favorite part of the Chicago Tribune article is in the comments. A reader writes:

“…anyone involved with producing that horrible steaming crap episode about Romo talking to his imaginary cat should be fired. I mean really fired. As in out the frakkin’ airlock fired.”

So say we all, brother.

Season four will resume in the first quarter of 2009.

  1. While news of the finale is indeed exciting, the announcement of its airing in the first quarter of 2009 is a hard slap in the face to all BSG fans. This is potentially 9 MONTHS from now. This happened with the super long break between seasons 3 and 4 and now they once again expect everyone watching the show to just cool their jets for the better part of a year and take it.

I’m getting extremely tired of the Sci-Fi Channel’s willingness to exploit its fans and properties for a quick buck. They can do it with Battlestar Galactica because it’s the most valuable thing they own, but why Ron Moore lets them get away with it is beyond me. We’ve been patiently waiting and watching for the end of the series, we’ve stuck with it even when we shouldn’t have, and now they intend to make us wait 9 months just to see the final 10 episodes.

Every suit at the Sci-Fi Channel is a mother fracker. Every. Last. One.

Correction. It’s the ONLY valuable thing they own. BSG is to Sci-Fi what South Park is to Comedy Central. Without those shows, both networks would have ceased operation a long time ago. The suits at Sci-Fi know this, so they’re holding on to their life preserver for as long as possible.

As for Moore, I’m guessing they’ve got him by the short-and-curlys, either legally or financially. I’m sure he’s being manipulated.

  3. “It’s the ONLY valuable thing they own?” Don’t discount the animation student intern with mad CG dinosaur skills. He’s produced at least a dozen Made-For-SciFi movies alone. And if they ever lose him, they can make at least $2G off his Maya software.

  4. p.s. I have a suspicion that Moore’s “short-and-curlys” are more like “long, flowing and feathered”. Possibly even braided. With beads.

That has to be one of the funniest things I’ve ever read. Thanks for the chuckle, that was awesome!
