The finalists for television’s Emmy Awards were announced today and we’ll give you one guess as to which show was not on the list. Yep, you guessed right, Battlestar Galactica was snubbed again. Despite some of the best writing and acting on television today, Ron Moore, Olmos, McDonnel and the rest of the company won’t be honored for their wonderful contributions to television drama. From Buffy to Farscape, Star Trek the Next Gen and beyond, science fiction just doesn’t earn the respect it deserves. So say we all!
UPDATE: Turns out Next Gen won a total of 18 Emmy awards over its 7 year run, although Wikipedia doesn’t specify what they were for. I’m willing to bet a Romulan Ale the majority of them were for special effects, costumes or makeup, not writing, directing or acting.
The worst part is that I’m not surprised.
Emmys suck. Do you watch them? We are not their target audience. That’s why the shows we love don’t get nominated. Everyone cares what dress Katherine Heigl will wear and how big McDreamy’s hair will be.
It’s a popularity contest completely divorced from artistic merit. Not worth paying attention to.
