Unlockable costumes, weapons, etc. are a staple feature of contemporary video games. The makers of the forthcoming Batman: Arkham City have announced that at least six unlockable costumes will be available. Six costumes and one huge catch.

The catch is this. The hidden costume you’ll have access to depends on which store you pre-roder from. Plus, you’ll only get one costume per store. Holy Rip-Offs, Batman! Sounds like you’ve got to buy the thing five times to get all five outfits.

Below is a list of which costume is available at each store. Choose wisely, old chum.

• Batman Beyond — GameStop
• Dark Knight Returns — Batman: Arkham City Collector’s Edition, Any Store
• Earth One Batman – MightyApe
• 1970′s Batman — Toys R Us
• The Animated Series Batman — MightyApe

Finally, Best Buy will offer an exclusive Robin Map Pack, featuring a Red Robin costume.

Katee Sackhoff talked with WIRED during Comic-Con 2011. It’s a nice interview; she discussed her role in the upcoming Spider Man: Edge Of Time game as well as the character she’ll portray in the animated Batman: Year One. Finally, the Cartoon Network has released a sneak peek of her character in season 4 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Plus, sexy purring.

While sitting on a Spider Man panel (above), Katee revealed her attempts to record some purring for Black Cat 2099, the character she plays in Edge of Time:

“When you’re playing the videogame and you pause a character, they stand in the background and make a noise so that you know that they’re still in play. And I was like, ‘Can I purr?’ And they said, ‘No, Katee, you cannot purr.’ And I was like ‘Why? She’s a cat.’ And it just sounded massively sexual, so … yeah they wouldn’t let me purr.”

Katee later reveals that she did purr a little bit in the game, but much less than she wanted. Bummer.

Here’s what else is cool. Katee will voice a recurring character on season 4 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Not just any character, mind you. She’ll play the first female  Mandalorian. What’s a Mandalorian? The term refers more to the armor than the person who wears it. Considered a “metal skin” buy its owner, a set of Mandalorian armor was a precious thing, often handed down through the generations. The saga’s most famous set was worn by Jango and the Boba Fett.

Season 4 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars will air this fall. Expect Katee’s character to appear mid-season. For now, enjoy this sneak preview. Katee’s character appears towards the end; her voice is unmistakable.

Can she hear the rain through that helmet?

Here’s a surprise: I enjoy MMORPGs. I’ve been playing Warcraft for years, and have anticipated the upcoming Star Trek Online for almost as long. Meanwhile, Bioware has released the first cinematic trailer for Star Wars: The Old Republic and it looks great. There’s not a lot of info available just yet, but here’s what we do know.

The story is set 3,500 years before the rise of Darth Vader and 300 years before the events of The Knights of the Old Republic. Specifically, it depicts the Sith Empire’s sacking of Coruscant. Players can choose to join either the Sith Empire or the Galactic Republic, and then refine their selection with classes, factions, alliances, etc.

One interesting aspect is the Holonet, a vast database of gameworld history, classes, planets and factions that will be accessible from within the game. You can get a small taste of it online. Additionally, LucasArts called the game “…the largest voice over project in the history of games and maybe across all areas of entertainment” at this week’s E3 Expo. Why? Because every character in the game — yes, every one — is “voiced.” Walk up to them and they’ll talk. That’s cool.

There’s no release date or system requirements available, but we’ll follow this game’s development and keep you in the loop.
